Victoriana Jewels
and Bevels abound . At the height of the Victorian age the use of bevels, jewels,
nuggets , engraving and polished baubles marked the beginning of domestic glass
and the height of opulence for stained glass craft and the beginning of glasswork
as an art form. This panel shown here is an example of this era and its use of
various special details. At its central point is a large custom bevel with
gluechipping, sandblasting and wheelcutting embellishments. The classical Greek
acanthus leaf corner designs are loaded with both polished and faceted jewels.
The client chose a more contemporary color scheme based on their personal decorating
choices. It is interesting that the contemporary coloring does not seem to effect
the integrity of the vintage period flavor. |
