Gwen Swick Performances

Her performances include folk festivals, clubs and concerts, Vision TV's "Listen Up", and many CBC Radio shows, including "Swinging On A Star", and "Performance". Her music has been choreographed, performed in a Toronto-staged musical, and is heard in National Film Board, CBC and independent films, and on radio across Canada and Europe.

As well as maintaining her active solo career, Gwen has sung, played bass and recorded with CHERIE CAMP and SHIRLEY EIKHARD in THREE MARIAS, MENDELSON JOE, TAMARACK, CATHERINE McKINNON & DON HARRON, ROBERT PRIEST, NANCY SIMMONDS, and COLLEEN PETERSON, and has provided background vocals on many other recordings, as well as maintaining her own career as a performer and songwriter.

GWEN'S music melds elements of folk, country, rock and blues into an unusual and beautiful composite style. Her most recent recording "A PEBBLE OF MERCY" co-produced with RICK HUTT, featured a 'who's who' of talented, committed musicians and singers, including her husband RANDALL CORYELL, DAVID WILCOX, ELLEN McILWAINE, and SHIRLEY EIKHARD. The CD is currently receiving substantial play, particularly in Europe. One of the songs, " I SHOULD FEEL EMPTY "(Real Audio), was picked up b y the L.A. based SCOTTI BROS. label for their soundtrack CD from the movie, "NEVER TALK TO STRANGERS" with ANTONIO BANDERAS and REBECCA DeMORNAY.

GWEN joined QUARTETTE as a permanent member in January of 1997.

Quotes about Gwen Swick
"With the finely developed lyrical sense of a natural poet, Gwen Swick is able to hone in on the human condition better than any of a thousand better-known writers."
- MITCH POTTER, TORONTO STAR

"..(she is) simply one of the most imaginative singer/songwriters in the country."
- LONDON FREE PRESS "

Gwen's music is densely textured, with nuance built upon nuance. It doesn't lend itself to performance in (folk festival) beer tents.....Within two songs, however, Swick and company turned the boisterous beer tent into an intimate concert hall. Talk about turning beer into wine!"
- THE RECORD, Kitchener, Waterloo "

"'Pebble Of Mercy' (is like) a rich luminous pool of self-revelation, deep with hard-earned wisdom, and vibrant with musical imagination."
- ALEXANDER VARTY, GEORGIA STRAIT

The CIUT-FM STAN ROGERS GOLDEN QUILL AWARD
went to Gwen Swick, Guelph ON for
I Don't Believe I Do Believe
(G Swick) Quartette: In The Beauty of the Day, CD, 1998, Outside Music
"Gwen is an amazing performer with charisma to match like no other person I have ever seen. She is an original. But her songwriting skills are what won her this award. Always a little off-side and quirky, full of heart-felt lyrics and easily accessible melody lines, her songs have won her recognition for her solo work as well as her work with Tamarack. She has made a great contribution to the life of Quartette at a time when one of the pillars of their structure fell.."
